Don't miss Uptown Local Voices 2025

Uptown Business Association May 14, 2025

FREE GIGS FOR EVERYONE!

Uptown is full of musical people – home to iconic venues, recording studios and a thriving community of creatives.

This May, in celebration of NZ Music Month, we present the Uptown Local Voices Series – a series of free, spontaneous pop-up gigs bringing live music to unexpected spots across the neighbourhood!

Discover the sound of Uptown at our series of performances, popping up in local cafés, community spaces and venues.

Join us on your lunch or coffee break as George VILLA kicks off the series with a relaxed acoustic in the peaceful upstairs courtyard at Benedict’s.

George VILLA is a 22yr old solo artist from Hamilton now living in Auckland.

Fresh off his new single “Keep It All Together” a psychedelic bossanova groove about feeling out of control, 2025 brings new releases fitting somewhere in the folk rock pocket as he continues to develop his sound.

His latest release “Time Gon’ Trickle Down” is out now.

24-year-old singer-songwriter, Jenni Smith, happily embodies the girl-next-door trope with her romantic, personal song-writing style being a perfect match for the pop-country genre.

Jenni lives and breathes music, and since joining New Zealand’s vibrant country music scene at the age of 12, highlights include taking out Songwriter of the Year at the 2018 NZCMA Entertainer of the Year Awards, landing her 2024 song ‘T-Shirt’ at #3 on the Official NZ Singles Chart.

There's something for everyone in Jenni's country-influenced writing; whether you want a hoedown, to cry for hours, get sassy, or confess love, you can bet she's got a song for it!

Video & Photo: Dawid Wisniewski On Saturday, locals and visitors came together for a sun-soaked, laid-back afternoon filled with music, markets, performances, workshops, and plenty of good vibes. The day marked the first event in the Basque Park Summer Series , brought to life by Uptown business Anya Vitali Creative Services and local Celia Ruane , whose passion for community and creativity transformed the park into a lively hub for connection and fun. From the natural amphitheatre to the winding paths and shady trees, Basque Park came alive with neighbours, furry friends, and whānau enjoying the eclectic mix of performances and activities. Summer is just beginning and we can’t wait to see everyone back at Basque Park for the next events - so grab your picnic blanket, bring your whānau, and soak up the Uptown vibes!
