"Make Space" for markets & more!
We welcome “Make Space” to Uptown
Markets, event space, public art…joy!
For several years, Uptown has been advocating to the Auckland Council to address the land use of the area surrounding Maungawhau Station. Eventually, this area will be developed with apartments and commercial spaces. But what happens during this transition period?
Over time, our message has been heard by the Mayor, local boards, and several other key city decision-makers.
The Auckland Urban Development Office (AUDO) commissioned Uptown business Fresh Concept to develop and implement an activation strategy that will bring the space to life. The new area has been named Make Space. It is a standalone initiative with its own identity. It will include activations, a bike hub, public art, a pocket park... And yes a Sunday market!
The Uptown Business Association will support and promote this project, helping to bring exciting new experiences to the neighbourhood.
Make Space's Maungawhau Market is opening on Sunday, the 20th of September.
A vibrant new Sunday destination where great food, local produce, creativity and community come together at the exciting new Maungawhau Station!
With over 60 stalls to explore, there’ll be plenty to see, taste and discover:
• Delicious food & treats
• Fresh local produce
• Arts, crafts & unique finds
• Live music
• Kids’ Corner
