Maungawhau Train Station

Due to open in 2026
The $5.5 billion City Rail Link development is currently the biggest transport infrastructure undertaking in New Zealand. The 3.4-kilometre track is due to open during 2026. A redeveloped Maungawhau station in Uptown is a key destination on the new network.
The CRL will not only make Uptown more accessible through shorter travel times around the city and beyond, but it is also a catalyst to enhance living and working spaces in the area. Over 100,000sqm will be redeveloped around the station with new commercial and residential spaces.
The likely growth in commuter and visitor numbers will bring even more buzz and diversity to the Uptown precinct. While there will be challenges while the construction is undertaken, the end result will undoubtedly be of benefit to all those who work and live in Uptown.
Site Development
The 3.2 ha of land around the station is jointly owned Auckland Council and the Central Government. The development will consist of a mix of residential, retail and commercial. Planning is still underway and any construction will not take place until after the completion of the CRL project.

The Uptown Business Association have been promoting the possibilities the development area. We have been in discussions with the Mayor, Council & Government Ministers advocating that new buildings and facilities integrate with the broader Uptown precinct.
