Entertaining at home is easy with Kwik-N-Ezy event hire

Words: Suzanne McNamara

It’s the season for entertaining and Gene Jouavel, owner of Uptown’s Kwik-N-Ezy, provides some top tips to make your home event a success.

It’s been a tough year for many businesses and event hire businesses like Kwik-N-Ezy have done it particularly hard. Now, with the sun emerging and Covid levels reducing, events are possible again. Gene Jouavel is well known in the events industry for his warm, friendly service and he says that an event at home makes sense for many reasons.

For one, party planners have more control, from catering their own food and drinks to controlling the music. In addition, home events can be more intimate affairs and Kwik-N-Ezy can help to get the ambience just right with its array of lights, canopies and accessories.

It’s surprising how simple and cost-effective it can be to have your event at home.

Consider enjoying your own home environment and making it a comfortable, safe and welcoming space for loved ones and friends.

Kwik-N-Ezy provides delivery, set-up, design and collection, giving hosts peace of mind. For any home celebration, from birthdays and dinner parties to weddings, give Gene a call.

Gene’s top 5 tips for a successful home event

1. Lighting

The power of lighting cannot be underestimated – it creates ambience and makes the setting. Candlelight is one of Gene’s favourites, along with outdoor festoon lighting. There are three varieties of festoon lighting, giving different vibes: clear festoon gives a warm, sophisticated ambience; coloured festoon gives a more energetic party atmosphere; and white festoon is perfect for a lighter atmosphere.

Coloured spotlights are great for both indoor and outdoor use. Use spots to provide a colour wash to a canopy, living-room wall or garden fence. This use of colour lighting can lift the energy of a gathering.

2. Canopy

Gene says cover is a must for outdoor gatherings. It’s better to be prepared than get caught out by the unpredictable. A canopy or marquee can extend an indoor setting into the outdoors and they contain the gathering, providing a cosier atmosphere. Gene’s motto is “Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it”.

3. Heating

Gene says there’s nothing worse than guests who are cold. Consider preheating the space or having heaters on standby.

4. Invite list

As well as your usual crew of friends, consider inviting some new faces to your event. Gene says mixing it up is always refreshing and making new friends and acquaintances can be exciting. Gene also says don’t forget to invite the neighbours!

5. Zones

Depending on how many people attend, it is worth considering different zones, from a dance floor to a comfort spot with good seating. The latter is good for conversation, especially when mixed with mood lighting.
