The French Café is one of New Zealand's most celebrated dining destinations, owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Sid and Chand Sahrawat.
Since acquiring the iconic Auckland restaurant in 2018, Sid and Chand have continued to honour its rich legacy while evolving it for a new generation of diners. Today, The French Café combines exceptional New Zealand produce, innovative cuisine, and warm hospitality, earning ongoing recognition as one of the country's premier fine dining experiences.
Executive Chef Sid Sahrawat is widely regarded as one of New Zealand's most influential chefs, known for his creativity, technical excellence, and commitment to showcasing local ingredients. He is supported by Head Chef Jono Beattie and Restaurant Manager Matthew Aitchison, alongside a talented team dedicated to delivering world-class hospitality.
The French Café is an independently owned, family-run business and forms part of the wider Sid and Chand Sahrawat hospitality group. Alongside The French Café, the couple own Cassia, their acclaimed modern Indian restaurant, which is preparing to reopen in its new permanent home in Auckland's city centre. They are also the founders of the award-winning restaurant Sidart, a pioneering fine dining establishment that helped shape Auckland's contemporary dining scene and operated successfully for more than a decade.
Beyond their restaurants, Sid and Chand are passionate advocates for Auckland's hospitality industry and entrepreneurial community. Through their businesses, events, collaborations, and mentoring initiatives, they continue to contribute to the vibrancy and growth of the Uptown precinct and Auckland's wider hospitality landscape.
