The City Rail Project & Uptown
The City Rail Project is currently the biggest transport infrastructure undertaking in New Zealand. it is due to open in late 2024. A redeveloped Mt Eden station in Uptown is a key destination in the new network. The CRL will not only make Uptown more accessible through shorter travel times around the city and beyond, but it is also a catalyst to enhance living and working spaces in the area. Over 100,000sqm will be redeveloped around the station with new commercial and residential spaces.
The likely growth in commuter and visitor numbers will bring even more buzz and diversity to the Uptown precinct. While there will be challenges while the construction is undertaken, the end result will undoubtedly be of benefit to all those who work and live in Uptown.
Due to the scale of the project and health and safety, the Mount Eden station will be closing for four years from 30 May 2020. More details are on the CRL site here.
