Uptown is experiencing an expansion of ways to feel good, with a range of dynamic, new-edge opportunities to reground and experience wellness. As the world changes, wellness offerings develop in line with society and, currently, prioritising mental and physical well-being is at an all-time high. It’s important to utilise your capacity to feel good, to firmly stand in your wairua and put yourself first. Uptown’s diverse range of wellness options will nourish your soul and send your energy levels towards that all-important point of balance.

The Physio Pilates Studio

Pilates is a game-changer when it comes to self-love. Originally referred to as “Contrology”, Pilates is deeply steeped in wellness and has grown into one of the most popular workout regimes in Aotearoa.

Developed in the early 20th century, Pilates has become a preferred routine to calm all elements of the body.

With Pilates hotspots all over Tāmaki Makaurau, The Physio Pilates Studio takes centre stage in Uptown, offering a holistic approach to ensuring a smooth return to positive health.

Located on Khyber Pass Road, The Physio Pilates Studio fields experts in both injury prevention and rehabilitation, offering the best of both worlds to a speedy recovery and overall wellness.

New owner Simone Wagenaar says the studio and its highly-skilled practitioners “offer ‘that moment’ to be present, to turn away from the chaos and invest in yourself. We also have an array of Pilates and physiotherapy options in a beautiful, fully-equipped Pilates studio with the most innovative equipment available.”

The Physio Pilates Studio creates a beautiful experience in the heart of Uptown, constantly personalising the right plan for each client, accompanied by a sincere approach to wellness for all.

Float Culture

High up in new-edge wellness culture are float tanks. Flotation involves lying in a supersaturated Epsom salt solution about 30cm deep. The solution is heated to skin temperature 35.5C and once you are settled, it is almost impossible to tell which parts of your body are in the water and which aren’t. The high density of the saline solution gives a feeling of weightlessness, letting every muscle in the body fully relax. The float pods are designed to block out all external distractions, such as sights, sounds, tactile sensations and gravity.

Ironically located on Water Street, Float Culture offers an experience of total sensory deprivation, a liberating weightlessness of pure joy. As a step towards habitual wellness, the experience aids in the body’s functioning and is perfect for restoring creativity.

With so many options available throughout the Uptown area, the active pursuit of a positive state of holistic health is right at our doorstep and well worth a try, lockdowns permitting.
