Marcelo & Co Hair Design share their curly hair tips

Battling frizz can be a frustrating mission for the curly-haired, but there is a way to have more manageable hair if you can find the right expert.

Marcelo Gonzalez, co-owner of Marcelo & Co Hair Design, a modern Uptown hair salon specialising in curly hair, provides a simple step-by-step guide to get the most out of your curl.

  1. Get the correct haircut to suit your hair needs and wants
  2. Wash your hair as little as possible. When washing, apply a small amount of conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair ONLY. Then towel dry gently with a scrunching motion
  3. Use curl-enhancing products. Nutri Curls from Wella and the Twisted range from Sebastian are specifically designed for curly hair or, if you’re looking for a sulphate-free range, Elements from Wella is going to be your go-to. Don’t forget, you can use texturising products along the lines of Sugar Lift or Ocean Spritz from EIMI Wella to give a more lived-in look
  4. At night-time, brush your hair with a wide-tooth comb
  5. The next day, spray your hair with water and apply a dash of leave-in conditioner. Scrunch your hair up and leave it to air dry naturally
  6. Enjoy the rest of the week with dazzling beautiful curly hair

Winter blues or winter blondes?

Winter is almost here and Marcelo & Co can help you choose the right colour and hairstyle to front up to the longer nights and cold days.

The enthusiastic team keep on top of the latest global trends with constant training and a dedication that has qualified them as one of the few Master Colour Expert Salons.

The stylists specialise in techniques to achieve the most luxurious blonde hair, such as balayage and ombre; foilyage and illuminage to add dimension; or highlights to give a lighter and brighter result. They use techniques such as “money piece”, a term for face-framing highlights in balayage that start at the root and continue to the ends of the hair.

Marcelo says that “only your attitude to life would be the limit to our creation of colour”. He thinks anyone considering going blonde or changing colour should first have a frank conversation with their stylist regarding expectations versus reality.

Marcelo’s quick tips to maintain the right blonde hues.

  1. Shampoo your hair less often
  2. Always use a silver shampoo to control an unwanted gold or brassy tone
  3. Even though blonde itself can last a long time, plan on having a toner in between services to avoid harsh lines and regrowth
