Feel good and look good this party season

Words: Suzanne McNamara

Winter can leave our skin dry and dull from a build-up of dead skin cells. Being cooped up inside during lockdown doesn’t help, so it was time for a skin spring clean. Visiting Caci Clinic in Uptown is a good option for getting rid of those dead skin cells and gaining clean and glowing skin.

Caci therapist Kate Hegarty was informative and helpful and diagnosed my skin as having dilated blood vessels on the top of my cheeks and nose. This meant that microdermabrasion, a popular exfoliating treatment, was too aggressive for my skin. It turns out this condition is fairly easy to avoid if you know how. Kate told me my skin had experienced repeated trauma from overusing exfoliants and hot water. Eventually, the skin can’t take it anymore and the blood vessels dilate or burst, causing redness and uneven skin tone.

Instead, Kate opted to apply a glycolic acid peel. This, she said, “gently dissolves superficial oil, allowing the outermost layer of dead cells to come away without the use of a physical abrasive”. This more gentle exfoliation is really effective and gives a lovely smoothness to the skin. It also means better absorption for products applied afterwards.

The peel made way for a Sonophoresis infusion that deeply hydrates the skin and penetrates active ingredients. The treatment finished off with an infrared LED light that helps stimulate the skin to heal and rejuvenate. These two treatments are gentle, relaxing and effective for all skin types, with no downtime.

The good news is that I can reduce or eliminate the dilated blood vessels with some follow-up treatments using the Caci Clinic membership plan.
